I have been a public school educator for 30+ years and I have strong relationships with hundreds of students and their families. In addition, I am a former summer school principal of an extended year special education program, which also included general education and English as a New Language (ENL) students. I encourage students to be lifelong learners, scholars, and global citizens. All of this requires a sound foundation of social emotional learning (SEL).
I have worked with the City School District of New Rochelle over the past five years to bring stability and collegiality to the school district. A second term will give me the opportunity to move the district forward to the next milestones in our Strategic Roadmap. There is so much we will accomplish by working together as a community in every school in our district. We will ensure that all students receive an excellent, quality education.
As an educator, I have deep experience in evaluating and implementing high quality local, state, and international curriculums. I served on the New York State Common Core Standards Review Committee and helped to form ELA learning standards for grade 6-8. I also earned Reading Recovery certification from NYU that allowed me to increase student reading achievement in ELA. In short, I believe in lifelong learning for everyone!
It is always my goal to be engaged with our community in ways that increase collaboration and teamwork. As a member of the New Rochelle Board of Education for the past five years, I worked closely with fellow board members, our community, and the superintendent to create our Strategic Roadmap. I am a founding member of the Lincoln Attendance Zone and Huguenot Academy PTAs. It is always my goal to be engaged with our community in ways that increase collaboration and teamwork.
I believe that when we treat children and adults with respect, we earn the same in return. I work with my colleagues on the board and our entire City School District of New Rochelle family to adhere to our core beliefs: Schools should be safe, joyous places of learning; students thrive with empowered families, school staff, and community partnerships.
